The year was 1970 and the band was Creedence Clearwater Revival. The lead singer, John Fogarty, wrote a song titled, Lookin’ Out My Back Door, all about getting home from a trip and being able to sit down on the porch and watch the world go by and all sorts of playful imaginings. It went something like this:
“Just got home from Illinois, lock the front door, oh boy!
Got to sit down, take a rest on the porch.
Imagination sets in, pretty soon I’m singing,
“Doo, doo, doo, Looking out my back door.
There’s a giant doing cartwheels,
A statue wearing high heels.
Look at all the happy creatures dancing on the lawn.
A dinosaur Victrola listening to Buck Owens.”
It is helpful, of course, if you have a view from your back yard and don’t have your sight blocked by a cement wall.
Laurel and I are now settled in our fifth wheel (in which we plan to reside for several years). We just got it last Saturday and moved it yesterday to Turtle Beach near Manteca, CA. I shot today’s picture from inside the fifth wheel, looking out the rear window into our back yard.
I must say that I’ve neither seen giants doing cartwheels nor tambourines and elephants playing in the band. But we did see some blue heron, egrets and pelicans when we took our dog, Lucy, for a walk this morning. Perhaps if I wait long enough, there will be giants and elephants and what not cavorting nearby. Oh, I wonder of Nessie will rise up out of the water and treat us to a spectacular show?!?!?!
