What is your favorite piece of playground equipment? Or, maybe a better way to ask: what was your favorite when you were a kid? My guess is that it would still be the same today.
For me, it was always the swing. I loved to sit on the swing and go higher and higher until I’d almost fall out the back side of the swing seat. In a way, it felt like I was flying!
If you are like me, you’ve probably had dreams about being able to fly. In my dreams, when I can fly, I don’t have to really move my arms or anything. I just think about going up to the ceiling and – presto! – I’m there! I think the reason I love the swing more than any other playground equipment is that it gives a sense of freedom that I suspect must come with the ability to fly.
I’m certainly not the only one who loves the swing. Today’s photo is of one of my granddaughters, who at 3 years of age, LOVES the swing – the higher she goes, the better! She seems fearless in the swing. Now, if she can only get over her fear of our dog.
ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY: in 1970, Brook Benton was awarded a gold record for his single, “Rainy Night in Georgia” which was his first hit since 1963’s “Hotel Happiness.”
TRIVIA FOR TODAY: there is only one known species of ostrich in the entire world.
